How the game works

Mental runs on a 5x3 base, expands up to 5x20 grid and ways-to-win, with free spins, scatter and multiplier doing most of the heavy lifting. Matching symbols on neighbouring reels count regardless of row position. Before you spin seriously, open the paytable inside the demo: it lists every symbol value and the exact feature rules.

Features explained

Mental lists 7 feature tags in our data. Here is what the main ones mean in practice:

• Free Spins. The in-game free-spins round is where most of the volatility lives; it plays out without charging you per spin.
• Scatter. Scatters are position-free: what matters is how many land, not where.
• Multiplier. Multipliers scale a win up by a stated factor; how and when they appear is set out in the paytable.
• Buy Bonus. Pay a set multiple of your bet and you go straight to the feature — fast, costly, and usually not allowed on bonus money.

What the maths says about Mental

Return to player sits at 96.07%, right around the usual 96% benchmark. That figure is theoretical and only shows up over an enormous number of spins. Studios often ship several RTP builds, so the 96.07% figure is worth double-checking inside the game wherever you play. It is rated very high for volatility, which in practice means long droughts and rare, outsized hits — the most extreme risk profile. Mental caps wins at 66,666× your bet. It sets the tone for what the game is chasing, but it is a rare outcome.

Is Mental for you?

On paper, Mental suits seasoned players who accept that most sessions end below where they started. It is also an obvious pick if horror and dark themes are your thing — the presentation is a big part of the appeal. There is a buy-feature button, which suits players who hate waiting for scatters — but use it on cash only, since bonus terms usually prohibit it. Whichever camp you are in, a demo session first is the honest way to find out.

After dark at Taboobet

We filed Mental under Taboobet’s after-dark picks: a slot with the right kind of shadows for a brand built on ember and amber. Taboobet’s welcome headline is 400% + 400 Free Spins; 400% + 400 free spins from a $35 minimum deposit, plus 9 fs no deposit for new users. The spin part is tied to specific titles chosen by the casino, so check whether Mental is eligible before assuming your spins can be used here.

Availability varies by country, so look the game up in the lobby before you play for real. Our free spins explainer covers how spin winnings convert.

Verdict

Mental earns its place on the after-dark list through its atmosphere and a very high-volatility profile that is honest about the ride. Play the demo, decide whether the rhythm suits you, and only then think about real stakes.
